New here? The
complete guide walks through
setup and every feature in plain English, including the parts people get stuck on: the
optional AI features, iCloud sync, sharing with a partner, and backups.
Plan your week
- Drag recipes onto a weekly meal-planning calendar.
- Export your meal plan to your calendar app (iCal).
Build your recipe collection
- Create recipes with structured ingredients and steps.
- Import recipes from a web link, a photo, or a backup file.
- Organize with tags and reprocess imported recipes anytime.
Shop smarter
- Auto-generate a shopping list from your planned meals.
- Items are grouped by store section so you shop aisle by aisle.
Sync privately, with no account and no server
- Your data lives on your device and syncs through your own iCloud Drive.
- There is no Platecraft account and no Platecraft server, so we never see your data.
- Sync across your devices, with an optional shared folder to share with a partner's Apple ID.
- Smart 3-way merge with clear conflict resolution when the same recipe changes on two devices.
Optional AI features (bring your own key)
- Photo import: snap a cookbook page or a handwritten card and get a structured recipe.
- Paste Text import: turn text from a note, an email, or a blog post into a recipe.
- Link import falls back to AI on sites that don't publish machine-readable recipe data.
- Tidier shopping lists: scallions and green onions land on one line, with quantities reconciled.
- Reprocess an imported recipe later to fill in what's missing or clean up formatting.
- These features use your own Anthropic (Claude) API key, entered in Settings. Typical cost is a couple of cents per photo import.
- Without a key, you can still import from links and backups and add recipes manually.
- An optional USDA FoodData Central key (free) can be added for nutrition lookups.
The guide has step-by-step setup for the AI key.
